Low-current systems and their applications

These are electronic systems operating with lower voltage. Common low-current systems used in homes or apartments include TV/SAT distribution, computer/data networks, electronic security systems (EZS), home audio/video intercoms, access control systems, IP camera systems, and audio/video technology.

As the name suggests, low-current systems involve all wiring where safe voltages up to 72V are present.

The main areas of low-current systems can be divided into two primary groups:

a) Information systems

b) Security systems

Information systems include:

  • Structured cabling (SC) and telephone networks
  • Communal TV antenna (CATV)
  • Door intercom (DT)
  • Audiovisual technology (AV)

Security systems include:

  • Fire alarm systems (FAS)
  • Intruder alarm systems (EZS)
  • CCTV camera systems
