The Use of CCTV in Logistics – Visualization

Logistics is a critical component in today’s world, especially for the smooth operation of many companies, particularly manufacturing firms.

In this article, we will focus on this sector.

When logistics run smoothly, processes like shipping, receiving, and quality control are efficient. But what happens when a package has been sitting in the warehouse for three days and no one knows where it belongs? Is it from a supplier, or maybe from a courier? Should it have already been delivered to a client? It’s a headache for warehouse workers, indeed.

This type of chaos used to be common when everything was managed solely by humans. While human workers are efficient, they can’t ensure low error rates on their own. That’s why modern technologies, like CRM systems, and integrated logistics solutions are being gradually introduced into the logistics process.

Ask anyone working in logistics about the biggest challenges they face?
... and their answers will likely be the same: managing quantities, meeting deadlines, handling damaged goods or materials, and dealing with broken packaging. While companies today rely on logistics systems, these systems typically require someone to manually input data, whether it be by hand, using handheld scanners, or through other methods. Human input remains a significant factor.

You might think the problem is solved because everything is organized within an agenda, but there’s still something missing: visual oversight.

Connecting an existing CRM system with a CCTV system brings unexpected advantages. Now, data can be stored on a server alongside a relevant jpg image or a short video clip.

How does this benefit the company?

Let’s return to the beginning of this article. The package that’s been sitting for three days – you now know it was delivered by a courier at 12:52:37 on Monday and that it contains Christmas gifts for clients, so there’s no need to move it. How do we know this? A reference image was taken at the time of receipt by a camera system placed above the receiving area.

This is also great news for the security department. The camera system can be used not only for logistics purposes but also for security – all within the same system. This dual-purpose use means the company doesn’t need to invest heavily in separate systems, and the result is enhanced oversight and a significant reduction in losses.
