Asia’s largest railway network, the Indian Railways, is relying on cutting-edge IDIS video solutions—including advanced facial recognition technology—to support its ambitious plans for technological modernization and significant growth in this sector.
The Indian Railways operates approximately 14,000 trains daily, carrying 9.5 million passengers across 65,000 kilometers of track. With a vision to handle up to 40% of the world’s rail traffic by 2050, it is modernizing its systems with innovative IDIS video solutions. In the first phase of this project, these solutions have been deployed in the eastern region at 230 of the busiest railway stations.
This advanced video system includes 4K-resolution cameras, AI video analytics, and facial recognition technology. Installations across hundreds of platforms allow railway security teams to maintain continuous oversight via monitoring centers located at every fifth station. These centers are connected through a federated architecture and managed by a central command and control system, which serves as a data center and provides failover capabilities to ensure uninterrupted operation.
Thanks to IDIS technology, Indian Railways is becoming safer and more efficient.
The IDIS Deep Learning Engine is advanced artificial intelligence that learns from real-world scenarios in much the same way the human brain does. It surpasses human capabilities by analyzing vast amounts of video data from one or multiple cameras, enabling it to detect and identify events or threats while eliminating false alarms. Independent testing on real installations has proven IDIS video analytics to be among the most accurate in the industry.
IDIS FaceTracker extracts dozens of characteristic points from the eyebrows, eyes, nose, and mouth in camera video streams, converting them into a numerical model. Using its own algorithms and high-speed processing, “IDIS FaceTracker” monitors and analyzes faces in live or pre-recorded video streams, verifying them against stored profiles with 95% accuracy.
